∴ Show Your Colours ∴

20210819_124441 (1)Does your fencing jacket need a little more pizazz on the piste? Is your kit bag in need of a rock’n’roll overhaul? Or maybe you just want to tell the world you have great taste in swords.

After numerous requests from friends and clients, we’ve designed the first official Balefire Blades fabric patch. Resplendent in our iconic green and black, they feature our maker’s mark against a background of hypnotic satin-on-matte spirals.

Finished with high-quality stitching and an iron-on back, they can easily be added to your item of choice.

All About Available Now

∴ What is our Available Now page? ∴

If you’ve browsed our site before, chances are you’ve seen our “Available Now” page, where we list one-of-a-kind Balefire swords available to buy on a first-come-first-served basis.

While we operate almost exclusively as a bespoke artisan forge, we set up this page for the rare occasions when we need to rehome orphaned swords after last-minute cancellations, or when we have enough spare parts in the workshop to make up a unique “frankensword”.

As our first priority is always our waiting list, this page hasn’t been particularly active – until now.

Forging On: How the Waiting List Works

∴ Lessons From Time∴

As we roll into a new year, we can’t help but reflect on the last one – and on how the international ups and downs of Covid and Brexit have affected our business. We have been fortunate as a small artisanal business to have had the support of our clients and community throughout these strange times.

However, the unprecedented uncertainty of the past year has inspired us to revisit our waiting list, which has certainly been pushed about more than we anticipated this year. In striving to maintain transparent communication with our customers, we’re rethinking how the waiting list can best serve us – and you.

The Art of Balefire Blades

∴ A Lasting Chronicle ∴

The first print run of the Art of Balefire Blades has sold out – we thank you all for your interest, and will update this page when we print another run.

We are proud to present a project we’ve been dreaming about since the distinctive Balefire style first took form – a hardcover art book, inviting our friends, clients and supporters to delve into the mythos of Balefire Blades.

Featuring Alicia’s original stories for fifty of our original swords, accompanied by full-page photos of each sword’s hilt, the book is a tangible way to relive highlights from Balefire Blades’ first three years. We have always been inspired by fantasy art books from our favourite film franchises and graphic artists, and it’s a pleasure to add our own to our bookshelf – we hope you’ll think so too!

Addressing the Coronavirus

∴ We Live in Interesting Times∴

To our customers and community,

We want to take a chance to update you on our situation during this period of general upheaval due to the Coronavirus.

The good news is that so far, we’re able to keep working. The forge is in a rural location, and significantly more isolated than our home is. We feel confident that we can continue to work there without incurring any risk.

We will continue to work through the waiting list as normal, and will be in contact with each client with photos and updates as swords take shape.

We may, however, choose to delay postage as the situation unfolds. Global supply lines are frantic during this time of uncertainty, and we would rather delay shipping than risk losing swords in the mail. We’ll email customers about this on an individual basis once swords are ready to ship.

In the event of a lockdown in the UK, we will make another public update, and prepare to start work again as soon as we’re able to return to the forge.

We can’t thank you enough for your support and enthusiasm. If you have any questions at this time, please don’t hesitate to contact us at

Stay healthy, and look forward to much sparring on the other side!
