Based on 1600s originals, this sidesword features a hollow pommel and a narrow blade, giving the whole a lighter weight and a slightly forward balance. This combination allows for swift movements yet a deceptively strong presence when it comes to maintaining the centre line. Compact and nimble, it will make a fun and functional addition to any armoury.
This blade is one of the first that Chris full hand-forged, so it has a few quirks of that process. Functionally it is a fine and durable blade, but you may notice a few aesthetic artefacts such as the fuller being slightly to one side of centre. Due to this, Chris chose to mount it up as a Black Ribbon sword rather than use it in a custom project as originally intended.
As part of our Black Ribbon series, it features matte blackened furniture with sweeping flat-section bars and hand-carved line decorations to the quillon terminals and spherical pommel. The bottom port is closed off with a historical scallop shell guard. The oak grip is wrapped in linen thread and oxblood-red kidskin.
Please note: this sword is sold as seen. If you are inspired to create your own design, please contact us to discuss a custom commission.
